We Can Be Heroes! (or at least watch them on TV)

Last weekend, Rose and I visited our friend Dave in Itaewon. He insisted on giving us several episodes of the show Heroes on DVD. "You won't be able to stop watching it," he told us. Little did we know how right he was.

Since yesterday, Rose and I have watched the first 9 episodes. The show is completely addicting! The basic premise is that there are ordinary people who are discovering that they have special abilities. Of course, this sounds kind of comic bookish (a little X-Men perhaps) but the story is told from a more realistic point of view--almost like "What would happen if one day you woke up with the ability to read minds or walk through walls?" The characters are easy to relate to; they're people with problems just like everyone else not aliens from outer space who can fly (Superman) or trust fund babies (Batman). And the show is really more than just a standard superhero tale; it's also dark and complex with interweaving plots about a serial killer and an impending disaster.

Fortunately for us, the weather was fantastic today; otherwise, we would have barricaded ourselves inside all day. (By the way, we also have a awesome new couch that we got for free--double the TV viewing pleasure!) But I'm sure we'll be back for more soon. Of course, we'll be caught up soon at this rate. Then we'll actually have to wait a week between episodes. Yikes.
