Make Oreos Better!

"Make Oreos Better" is a little game I started a couple of years ago when I worked at the Appalchia Service Project. It's pretty simple to play. First, separate the two halves of the Oreo. Second, add in whatever yummy ingredients you choose: icing, hot fudge, ice cream, whipped cream, marshmallow, peanut butter, and Magic Shell are all wonderful possibilities. Third, put the two halves back together and eat the whole thing at once. No tentative bites, no nibbling--the whole thing at one time! That way, you get to experience the different flavors as you choose. Of course, this was a blast to play with 30 people in the kitchen at Jonesville.

Since I couldn't be at ASP staff training this year, Rose and I decided to make Oreos better in honor of all those hard workin' folks. It was a little hard to find all the right ingredients but we managed to get two kinds of Oreos (chocolate and PB), some flan-like pudding cups, chocolate sauce, cheesecake ice cream, homemade whipped cream, peanut butter, and some 99% Cacao chocolate. We also had a bizarre thing called "Choco Cheese"--processed cheese with 10% chocolate. Dreadful stuff. It started out like chocolate and ended up tasting like bad processed American cheese. Needless to say, this didn't make the cut.

Rose and I made it through a couple rounds. Rose definitely held her own despite her rookie status. My favorite was the ice cream-chocolate flan-chocolate sauce-peanut butter Oreo. Good stuff. Not quite the same as my all-time favorite (chocolate icing, hot fudge, chocolate ice cream, Magic Shell, chocolate pudding, and chocolate whipped cream--"All Chocolate, All the Time") but still a nice touch of home. I miss you crazy kids at ASP!
