In Search of Vinyl Part I: The List
I recently purchased a turntable to go with the 17 vinyl albums I had accumulated over the last couple of years. In preparation for my Saturday record shop excursion, I sent out a text to my music loving friends: "If you could buy just one album, what would it be?"
Of course, not everyone could pick just one. (I often have the same problem making choices in ice cream shops--the only way I can pick a flavor is by telling myself I can always get the other one next week.) Here's the list of recommendations:
Adam
The low spark of high heeled boys, Traffic
Remain in Light, Talking Heads
Raw Power, The Stooges
Natasha
Blue Valentine, Tom Waits
Isaac
The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society, The Kinks
At Folsom Prison, Johnny Cash

Pink Moon, Nick Drake
Honorable mention:
Harvest, Neil Young
What's Going On, Marvin Gaye
At Folsom Prison, Johnny Cash
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Wilco
March 16-20, 1992, Uncle Tupelo
TJ doesn't believe in greatest hits albums, but if he did:
Greatest Hits, Al Green
Hank Williams' Greatest Hits, Hank Williams
