Fran Meets A Childhood Hero... In Fukuoka!
My last day in Fukuoka was a nice one. After checking out of the hostel, I spent most of the day visiting temples and shrines in the city. Temples and shrines are, as one might expect, quiet and calming places so I had a relaxing time walking and exploring.
But the highlight of the day came when I walked into the Hakata rail station to head back to the airport. There, in the market, was one of my childhood heroes--Ultraman!
For those of you not in the know, Ultraman actually refers to not one but several popular superheroes in Japan--I met Ace Ultraman. My parents had lived in Japan before I was born and I had several Ultraman figures when I was little. Or maybe I still have them now but I don't want to tell you. Anyway, I was way excited at the thought of getting my picture taken with Ace Ultraman. Look at that photo--no one's gonna mess with those heroes! (By the way, that rubber suit rocks!)
