Weekend Update 5/12

Rose and I saw Spiderman 3 on Saturday night. We took in the show at Mega Box Theatres (how's that for truth in advertising, right?) in COEX Mall in Gangnam. Most of the movie going experience was similar to the US. Rose and I even had our popcorn and coke (at a reasonable price though). One important difference: seats are assigned so it pays to buy tickets early. You can stop by the theatre, go eat dinner, shop, whatever, and then show up on time for the show. No waiting in line, fighting for seats, etc.

The movie itself was pretty good. Spiderman 3 is firmly planted in the comic book movie genre--complete with over-the-top characters, cheesy punchlines, and Frankenstein-like transformation scenes--so suspension of disbelief is a must. It may not be Oscar-worthy but it is solid superhero escapist fare, well executed with excellent special effects. As a fan of comic books, I enjoyed it and Rose, who despised Spiderman 2, liked it as well.
