VP Debate
A couple of thoughts on last night's VP debate:
1. Unsurprisingly, Sarah Palin did not fall flat on her face as many had predicted. Unlike in her Katie Couric interview, she did in fact appear to be at least somewhat competent and only verged on a run-on nonsensical answer once. If she didn't give at least a passable performance after the amount of prep she had, even McCain would've begun to question her qualifications.
2. That said, Palin did repeatedly dodge questions and change topics. And given the highly structured debate format, she managed to get away with it. Not exactly straight talk if you ask me.
3. Lastly, when will the overuse of the word "maverick" finally wear thin? Palin seemed to play the M-card every time she got in over her head on policy. Maverick this, maverick that. How about mixing in some actual policy proposals that might make a difference to real people? My favorite was when she broke out "team of mavericks." Does that even make sense? It reminded me of the fictional rock band "The Lone Rangers" in the movie Airheads: "The Lone Rangers? That's original. How can you pluralize 'The Lone Ranger'?"
Anyway, I had fun hiking today and I'm going to volunteer for Obama tomorrow. Hope you have a great Saturday!
